Since 1967, the Department of Linguistics has offered courses in various areas of linguistics and its intersections with related disciplines. Some areas of research and teaching in the department include:
- Language Structure (phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics)
- Language Use (sociolinguistics, language variation and change, language documentation and revitalization)
- Cognitive Science (psycholinguistics, language acquisition, computational linguistics)
Our undergraduate curriculum and research opportunities allow students to gain an understanding of what it means to be a linguist and to develop their knowledge and skills with hands-on data collection and analysis.
