Happy New Year and return to classes from the Linguistics department!
The department had a holiday party on December 12, where professors and students chatted, enjoyed food, and played games. There was also music played on the marimba by Professor Pedro Mateo Pedro and his two sons, performing as Xumakte’.
We interviewed some professors about their thoughts on the holiday break and new semester.
Professor and Department Chair Naomi Nagy said her favourite part of the semester was watching students hatch research project ideas, she was most excited for not having to grade over the break, and was most looking forward to longer days during the second semester.
Professor and Graduate Chair Keir Moulton said that his favourite part of the first semester was the holiday party, he was most excited for cross-country skiing during the winter break, and he is most looking forward to teaching a seminar class on issues in syntax and semantics during the winter term.
Professor Nathan Sanders said his favourite part of the semester was talking about signed languages in LIN228: Phonetics, and he was most excited for sleeping over the break. He is most looking forward to a new course for graduate students on teaching in linguistics and TULCON in the winter semester.
We’re looking forward to another great semester at the Linguistics department.
