On September 12, 2025, the department held its annual Kick-off Day, a day where the department gets together to welcome new members, and to hear from each other about the projects and activities underway in the department.
The day began with breakfast in the department lounge. Profs. Keir Moulton and Naomi Nagy offered welcome remarks. Like last year, Keir reminded us that we do a lot of work on Fridays: we participate in research groups, students meet with their advisors, and everyone participates in a lot of community building. Our new MA and PhD students were introduced and they got to mingle and chat with department members.

Shortly after breakfast, Prof. Myrto Grigoroglou introduced this year's Kick-off Day guest speaker Prof. Monika Molnar (Department of Speech Language Pathology, UofT). Prof. Molnar gave a talk entitled, Unequal Foundations: Moving Toward Equity in Research on Bilingual Children’s Development.

Grad students and faculty members then joined various research group meetings: LVC Group, LDDR Group, Phon Group, Semantics Group, CSOL Group, and the Syntax Group. In between we also saw people play hallway bowling, a recent tradition in our department.

The day was then capped off by our annual Welcome Party.

Thank you to everyone for making this day a success!
