Individual Projects

Interested in conducting an Individual Project?

We offer several options for undergraduate students who would like to work with a supervisor on an Individual Project (a.k.a. independent study). You can take an Individual Project course as a full (1.0 credit) or half (0.5 credit) course in the LIN49X series, and take it over one or two sessions. To enroll in an Individual Project course, you must secure a supervisor from among the undergraduate faculty in the Department of Linguistics at UTSG (if you would like to conduct an independent study with someone else, you should do so through their home department). Together with your supervisor, you will work out a research plan with evaluation dates and methods and submit a project contract form (below) to the undergraduate office.

To be eligible for an Individual Project course at the 400-level, you must have completed at least 10.0 credits toward your degree, and at least 3.0 credits toward your linguistics program of study. You can complete up to 1.0 credits with the same supervisor, and no more than 2.0 credits overall in LIN Individual Project courses.
